The Herod Response (Matt 2:1-18)
Monday Dec 05, 2022
Monday Dec 05, 2022
Join Pastor Stuart as we begin our new series Responding to Jesus.
We begin our journey in The Gospel According to Matthew 2:1-18 as we examine . . . "The Herod Response". In this lesson, we learn:
- Encountering Jesus requires a response.
- The “Herod response” is to be troubled by Jesus.
- We’re troubled by Jesus when we realize he will disrupt our sense of power and control.
- When we’re tempted to have this response to Jesus, we need to realize his Lordship is best for us.
- Therefore, we ought to learn to recognize and resist the “Herod response” in your own life.
- So, by the power of the Spirit, let’s grow in living in light of the Lordship of Jesus.

The Joy of the Future (Rev 21:1-5)
Monday Nov 21, 2022
Monday Nov 21, 2022
Join Pastor Stuart for the final lesson in our series on Joy.
In this last lesson, we look to John's vision of "a new heaven and a new earth" in Revelation 21:1-5 as we are reminded of . . . "The Joy of the Future"
- No matter what we experience in this age, God’s people will be full of joy in the age to come.
- Nothing in this life is as secure as our destiny in Christ.
- Knowing our destiny in Christ can bring us great joy in the present.
- Therefore, we ought to think about the age to come often.
- So, by faith and by the work of the Spirit, let’s rejoice in the destiny Christ has secured for us.

Joy During Difficulties (James 1:2-4)
Monday Nov 14, 2022
Monday Nov 14, 2022
Join Pastor Stuart in the tenth lesson in our series about Joy.
This week, we turn our attention to the Letter of James 1:2-4 to hear the exhortation to, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds." In this sermon, Pastor Stuart teaches about . . . "Joy During Difficulties "
- We can have joy even in difficult, challenging, or painful circumstances.
- This joy isn’t found in the circumstances themselves.
- Joy during difficulties is found in how we consider the circumstances.
- God is at work even in our most troublesome moments to make us perfect and complete in Christ.
- Even though we may be tempted to doubt these truths, Jesus deepens our faith.
- Therefore, when facing any difficulty of life, remind yourself of how the Spirit is at work in you and in others.
- So, by the work of the Spirit, let’s grow in finding joy even in the midst of troubling times.

The Joy of Humility (John 3:25-30)
Monday Nov 07, 2022
Monday Nov 07, 2022
Join Pastor Stuart in the ninth lesson in our series about Joy.
This week, we turn our attention to the words of John the Baptist in John 3:25-30 as we are reminded that "He must increase, but I must decrease." In this sermon, Pastor Stuart shines a light on . . . "The Joy of Humility"
- The way of humility brings us great joy.
- By contrast, pride ultimately leads us to unrest, dissatisfaction, and misery.
- Much of the joy of humility is found in thinking more about others than ourselves.
- This is especially true as we humble ourselves to praise and serve God.
- Jesus is not only the great example of humility; he humbled himself for our salvation.
- Therefore, we can ask the Spirit to produce true humility in you.
- So, let’s continue to grow in the joy of Jesus by growing in humility.

The Connection Between Gratitude & Joy (1 Thess 5:16-18)
Monday Oct 31, 2022
Monday Oct 31, 2022
Join Pastor Stuart in the eight lesson in our series about Joy.
In this sermon, we turn our attention to the Apostle Paul's first letter to the church of the Thessalonians 5:16-18 as we are instructed to "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." This week, Pastor Stuart focuses on . . . "The Connection Between Gratitude & Joy"
- Gratitude helps us to grow in experiencing more joy.
- We can express gratitude no matter what our circumstances may be.
- Because we can give thanks in all circumstances, we can also rejoice always.
- As those who know the love, grace, and mercy of God in Christ, we have much for which to be thankful!
- Therefore, we can express gratitude daily.
- So, let’s grow in joy by growing in gratitude.

Celebration is God’s Idea (Deut 16:1-17)
Sunday Oct 30, 2022
Sunday Oct 30, 2022
Join Pastor Stuart in the seventh lesson in our series about Joy.
In this sermon, we look again to the Old Testament to be reminded that . . . "Celebration is God’s Idea"
- The feasts of the Old Testament show us that God wants his people to celebrate.
- We celebrate what God has done, is doing, and will do for us.
- Jesus is the heart of our celebrations.
- Therefore, we can be intentional to celebrate the goodness of God in Christ often.
- So, let’s celebrate all we have in Jesus.

The Happiness of Holiness (Neh 8:1-12)
Monday Oct 10, 2022
Monday Oct 10, 2022
Join Pastor Stuart in the next lesson in our series about Joy.
In this sermon, we turn to Nehemiah 8:1-12 to learn about . . . "The Happiness of Holiness"
- Holiness and happiness harmonize.
- One reason we doubt this truth is that we misunderstand holiness.
- Another reason we doubt the connection between holiness and happiness is that we misunderstand joy.
- The good news we can celebrate is that our holiness and our happiness connect in Jesus.
- Therefore, we can ask the Holy Spirit to make the connection between holiness and happiness more vividly real in your life.
- So, let’s celebrate with holy happiness the gift we have in Jesus.
