Mercy to Those Who Doubt (Jude 20-23)

In this lesson, we learn:

• Because God has shown us mercy in Christ Jesus, we show mercy . . . even to those who doubt.
• We show mercy to people who doubt in several ways:
  
  1. We don’t judge or condemn them.
  2. We show kindness, compassion, and care.
  3. We listen.
  4. We help them process their doubts.
  5. We encourage them not to give up on Jesus.
• So, by the work of the Spirit, let’s grow in showing the mercy of Christ to those who doubt.

The Heart of Doubt (James 1:5-8)

Responding to God’s Invitation (Luke 14:12-24)

• So, let’s joyfully accept God’s invitation in Christ and urge others to do the same.

The Seeking and Celebrating God (Luke 15:1-10)

• The parable of the lost sheep and coin tell us important truths about what God is like.
• God is the diligent seeker of people who are “lost.”
• God celebrates when a sinner repents.
• These two truths sum up the ministry of Jesus.
• They should also sum up the ministry of his church.
• So, let’s all realize the good and gracious character of God the Father, keep coming to Jesus, and grow in reflecting him by the work of the Spirit.

All Over the World (1 John 2:1-2)

• He also satisfies God’s just judgment against our sin.
• Two “take aways” from these truths for those who follow Jesus:
  1. We resist the pull of tribalistic and xenophobic tendencies.
  2. We indiscriminately spread the good news far and wide.
• So, let’s find great comfort and joy in Jesus and share his good news with others.

Encouragement to Sinners (1 Timothy 1:12-17)

• The apostle Paul is an example to us all of how God is able to save even the worst of sinners.
• No matter how sinful we may be, we are not beyond the reach of God’s grace and mercy in Christ.
• So, let’s believe the good news and keep looking to Jesus.

Jesus’ “Target Group” (Luke 5:27-32)
