• When it comes to Jesus, there are at least four beliefs that are of “first importance.”
  
  1. Jesus died for sinners.
  2. Jesus was buried.
  3. Jesus rose from the dead.
  4. Many people were witnesses of the resurrection.
• Therefore, we ought to Respond rightly to Jesus.
• So, let’s believe the good news about Jesus and live out those beliefs every day.

Join Pastor Stuart as we conclude our series, Overflow.

This week, we look at Psalm 4:5-8 and John 15:9-11 to hear God's enduring call to . . . "Joy".

• God wants his people to overflow with joy.
• To embrace this truth, we need to address some of our distorted views concerning joy.
  • Distortion 1: Joy is not an emotion.
  • Distortion 2: Emotions (even emotions like joy) are irrational, childish, unreliable, and can lead to problems, so it’s best, or more godly, to be stoic.
  • Distortion 3: Happiness and joy are two different things.
  • Distortion 4: Enjoying ourselves too much is sinful.
  • Distortion 5: God doesn’t really care about your happiness; he only cares about your holiness.
  • Distortion 6: If God wants us to be joyful we should never feel or express sadness.
• The fullness of joy is found in Christ.
• Therefore, we ought to overflow with joy as we
  • Rely on the Spirit,
  • Enjoy God’s good gifts,
  • Jesus is your highest joy,
  • Obey Jesus,
  • Identify distorted thoughts,
  • Celebrate what is good often,
  • Eternalize your perspectives.
• So, by the work of the Spirit, let’s grow in being the joyful people God calls us to be in Christ.

• Because God has been generous to us, we are called to be generous.
• God’s generosity to us is extravagant.
• As we give ourselves to Jesus, giving to others is a joyful privilege.
• And that we ought to overflow with generosity as we
  • Grow in gratitude.
  • Identify opportunities around you.
  • Value what is truly important.
  • Engage willingly and wisely.
  • Remember: God owns it all.
• So, let’s excel in the grace of joyful giving for God’s glory and the good of others.

• Because God is merciful to us, we are called to be merciful.
• At the heart of mercy is showing compassion, kindness, and care to others.
• God’s lavish mercy in Christ enables us to overflow with mercy . . . even in surprising ways.
• And that we ought to overflow with mercy as we
  • Marinate in God’s mercy.
  • Esteem others.
  • Recognize the plight of others.
  • Care wisely.
  • Yield to the Spirit.
• So, because of the mercy we’ve received in Christ, let’s grow in showing mercy to others.

  • Orbit Jesus
  • Value God and his love for you
  • Engage in loving actions by faith
• And by the Spirit, we can grow in knowing God’s love in Christ so that we will overflow in love to God and others.
